Josh Desai return to his roots in the Suffolk Athletics Department as the former Rams’ baseball standout joined Anthony Del Prete’s staff as a graduate assistant at the beginning of the 2016-17 academic year. Along with his coaching responsibilities, Desai will help manage the Athletics Facilities including the brand new Michael & Larry Smith Fitness Center. 

Desai took one year away from Beacon Hill where he gained coaching experience at his alma mater Shrewsbury High School. He helped the Colonial to the District Finals. 

In the summer of 2016, he took his baseball knowledge to Shrewsbury American Legion, where he worked as an assistant coach and coached current Suffolk baseball player Charles Batchelder. Desai was a crucial ingredient to the team’s first state championship since 1977. The team made its furthest run in its history, advancing to the Final Four of the New England Regional in Bristol, Connecticut. 

As a player, Desai had a storied career in blue-and-gold capped off by a 2015 GNAC title, guiding the Rams to the NCAA Regionals as the GNAC Tournament MVP. The four-year letterwinner picked up GNAC Rookie of the Year status in 2012, was named to the All-GNAC Tournament team in 2013 and was a second-team all-conference selection as a senior.

He also has three summers of experience playing in Major League Baseball Affiliated Summer Leagues. In 2014, he was on the mound for the Worcester Bravehearts of the Future's Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). He did not allow an earned run in nine appearances in the regular season and pitched the Bravehearts to the FCBL Championship that summer earning the win in a 1-0 series clinching victory. The summer before, Desai threw for the Wincehster Royals of the Valley Baseball League, an NCAA collegiate wood bat league in Virginia. Desai's summer baseball career began in 2012 for the North Shore Naviagotrs of the FCBL. 

Away from the diamond, Desai continues his education at Suffolk, where he is pursuing a Master's Degree in Administration of Higher Education. He graduated from Suffolk’s with a BSBA in Business Management in 2015.
