  • Sylvester Swipes Fifth GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week Nod

    For the fifth time this season, Payton Sylvester of the Suffolk softball team took home GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week recognition, the league office announced Monday. The laurels come on the 5-1 week for the Rams were the freshman put together a slash line of .435/.417/.696.

    Devlin Frost’s walk-off homer in the eighth inning lifted Suffolk softball to an 8-6 win over Albertus Magnus to open the GNAC double feature Saturday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.

    In a GNAC full weekend, the Suffolk softball team looks to get back on track as it heads out on the road before saluting its Senior Class. The Rams will first visit Mount Ida Saturday, April 21, before welcoming Albertus Magnus to East Boston Memorial Park Sunday, April 22 for Senior Day. First pitch on both days is scheduled for 12 p.m.

    The winners of the last 11 contests, the Suffolk softball team wraps up a 10-game homestand this weekend as the Rams entertain Emmanuel and Saint Joseph (Conn.) at East Boston Memorial Park. The blue-and-gold will first welcome the Saints to Eastie for their Coaches vs. Cancer game Saturday, April 14, before hosting the Blue Jays the following day, Sunday, April 15. Both contests are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.

    Payton Sylvester of the Suffolk softball team has been tabbed GNAC Corvias Co-Player and Rookie of the Week after putting together a .538 batting average and a 1.615 slugging percentage performance at the plate over four games the league office announced Monday. Sylvester shares the player of the week nod with Johnson & Wales’ Tiffani Semanchik.

The twin bill between the Rams and AMCATS is set to take place at Scots Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex in Providence, Rhode Island. Game one is scheduled for a 12 p.m. first pitch with game two to follow.
