Bowman's big day leads Suffolk over Wentworth.

Kerry Bowman (Guilford, CT) netted 25 points and the Suffolk University Women’s Basketball improved to 3-1 on the season with a 72-57 victory Saturday afternoon over Wentworth (1-3) at Regan Gymnasium in Boston, Ma.

Bowman shot 9-13 from the field and 7-11 from the free-throw line to go along with five rebounds. Senior guard Emily Duquette (Harrisville, RI) added 12 points and six rebounds. Kristina Hayner scored ten points off the bench and Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, Ma) finished with nine points and six rebounds for the Rams.

Kristen Vallone grabbed a game-high twenty rebounds for Wentworth and scored 13 points. Meaghan Gardner led Wentworth in scoring with 15.

Suffolk outscored the Leopards 39-23 in the final 20 minutes. Bowman and Duquette began the second half with back-to-back jumpers to put Suffolk ahead 37-34 with 19:20 left to go. The Rams never trailed for the remainder of the game and built a 60-48 lead halfway through the period thanks to a 12-2 run. Bowman got the run going with a layup and finished with five points. Hayner added four points during the run. The Leopards never recovered as they trailed by double-digits the rest of the way.

Suffolk trailed by nine points early in the game and fell behind by seven points twice in the first half, including a 23-16 deficit with 10:53 on the clock, but its tough defense allowed Wentworth only a 34-33 advantage at the half.

The Rams’ continued their stingy defensive play and held the Leopards to just 27% shooting for the game. Wentworth finished the afternoon with 31 turnovers and only 11 assists.

Suffolk heads to Colby Sawyer Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
