BIDDEFORD, Maine – For the second time this season, Mauro Stanchieri of the Suffolk men's golf team picked up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week recognition after his showing at the Blazers Invitational, the league office announced Tuesday.
The freshman earned a share of 14th place at the Cold Springs Country Club with a two-day score of 157 (+15). The Venezuela native led Suffolk in the event with a 77 (+6) on day one and an 80 (+9) on the second day on the course in Belchertown, Massachusetts. Stanchieri was the second-best rookie in the field of 69 and the second-best CCC golfer, finishing behind Gordon's graduate student Karsten Lusk, who claimed a share of fifth with a 153 (+11).
The accolade is Stanchieri's second of the season, which marks the first time a Ram has grabbed multiple weekly recognitions from the conference in program history, according to the year-by-year record books, which date through the 2009 campaign.
Stnachieri and the Rams will wrap up their fall campaign this weekend as they vie for the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship Oct. 17-18.
