BOSTON – After a shutdown performance in Sunday's GNAC Championship 1-0 win over Johnson & Wales, senior righty Chuck Gibson was named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week.
Gibson, the 2017 GNAC Pitcher of the Year, shoved a complete-game, three-hit, shutout to lead Suffolk to its third consecutive GNAC Championship, the program's seventh overall. The Malden, Massachusetts, native fanned the final four hitters, the last batter in the eighth, and the side in the ninth, all looking, to finish the day with eight strikeouts and secure the 1-0 Rams title victory.
The weekly accolade is the first of the GNAC Tournament MVP's storied career and marks the first time a Ram has been featured on the national weekly team since it began in 2012.
Gibson is 7-0 this year in seven starts with victories over to league foes then-No. 19/24 St. Joseph's (Maine) and a pair of wins versus the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales. He also collected a win against then-No. 9 St. John Fisher during the Rams' annual Spring Break trip to the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. In 54.2 innings of work this season, Gibson has sat down 38 batters, while positing a 1.65 ERA.
The Team of the Week is D3Baseball.com's weekly honor roll, honoring performers at each position from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their schools' sports information directors. Gibson earned the nod in the final Team of the Week of the 2017 season.
To prep for the 2017 NCAA Tournament, which gets underway May 18, Gibson and the Rams head to Bates, Thursday, May 11 for a twin bill with the Bobcats. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
