BOSTON – Chuck Gibson of the Suffolk baseball team has been named a nominee for Herosports.com DIII Baseball Pitching HERO of the Week thanks to his stand-up effort on the mound in the GNAC Championship 1-0 victory over Johnson & Wales Sunday. To vote for Gibson, click here.
Gibson, a Malden, Massachusetts, native, was the different in the 1-0 win over the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales. The senior went the distance, tossing a three-hit shutout that featured eight strikeouts and no walks. The senior captain fanned the final four hitters, the last in the eighth and the entire side in the ninth to lock up the Rams' third straight conference crown and seventh overall bid to the NCAA Championship.
The GNAC Pitcher of the Week garnered a spot on the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week for his performance, becoming the first Suffolk student-athlete named to the national weekly team since it began in 2012.
Gibson and the Rams will prep for its third consecutive Big Dance trip with a twin bill at Bates tomorrow, Thursday, May 11. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
