Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

The Suffolk University Baseball swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double header defeating the Norwich University Cadets, 8-1 in game one and then 14-0 in game two. Freshman Jhonneris Mendez (Roslindale, Mass.) finished the day 5-for-8 with seven RBI, hitting a home run in game one and adding a double and a triple in game two, while senior Bobby Barrett (Milton, Mass.) finished the day 6-for-8 combing for the cycle in the double header scoring five times while knocking in four runs. The Rams knocked out 30 hits as a team in two games combined as they now push their season record to 9-8, while moving to 5-1 within the GNAC.

In game one, junior Alex Torres (Framingham, Mass.) picked up his second win of the season on the mound throwing a complete game with six strikeouts only allowing one run on seven hits.

Bobby Barrett  got the scoring going in the first hitting a towering home run to left to give the Rams an early 1-0 lead.

The Rams would add runs in both the second and fourth innings taking advantage of Norwich errors as junior Andrew Babb (Ashland, Mass.) came across both times. Babb would add an RBI in the fifth inning drawing a bases loaded walk to push the score to 4-1.

Suffolk would add four runs in the seventh inning to give themselves some insurance and put the game away. The big blow came off the bat of Mendez, who hit a line drive shot to left for his first collegiate home run plating three runs.

Junior Mark Addesa (Revere, Mass.) added an RBI-single later in the inning to make it 7-1. Addesa finished the game with two hits, along with Barrett, Mendez and junior Mark Annese (Winchester, Mass.) all had a pair of hits for the Rams who put together 13 total in the game.

Game two got off to a quicker start for Suffolk as they scored four runs in the first on four hits. Senior Marc Doyle (Whitman, Mass.) got the scoring started with an RBI-single back up the middle to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. After a walk to Andrew Babb to load the bases, Jhonneris Mendez delivered once again with three RBI, this time hitting a double to right center to clear the bases and give the Rams an early 4-0 lead.

Suffolk got two more in the third as Babb and Mendez hit back-to-back RBI triples.

The Rams had 17 total hits in game two, as Bobby Barrett finished game two a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Freshman Chris Stanley (Orange County, Calif.) finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Senior Rory Gentile (Gloucester, Mass.) and junior Nick Travelyn (Bedford, N.H.) each had a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored for the Rams.

Doyle finished the game 2-for-4 with the bat, while going six innings strong on the mound for his second win of the season. Doyle only allowed two hits while fanning eight Cadets’ hitters.

Suffolk will be back in action on Monday as they travel across the Charles River to take on MIT in non-league action at 3:30pm in Cambridge, Mass.
