Summer Catch: Rams Complete Championship Summer League Seasons

BOSTON – Suffolk's baseball roster split up over a variety of collegiate baseball clubs over the summer and five Rams, four student-athletes and assistant coach Jhonneris Mendez, played their way to summer league glory.

For the second straight summer George Breslin and Michael James Jr. teamed up with Al Thomas to capture the Yawkey Baseball League (YBL) Championship, while Luke Harder and Timothy McCarthy won their respective league titles in the Boston Park League (BPL) and North Shore Baseball League (NSBL), respectively. Mendez, meanwhile, coached the Martha Vineyard Sharks to the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Fay Vincent Cup.

RAMS ROUND UP: YAWKEY BASEBALL LEAGUE

Breslin returned to the YBL for his four year with Al Thomas and was a consistent arm in the starting rotation. The right-handed hurdler, who hails from Milton, Massachusetts, scattered 24.1 innings of work over six games in the regular-season. He built a 1.73 ERA with 35 punchouts.

James was back in the wooden-bat YBL, one of the elite amateur baseball leagues in New England, for his second season. He connected for five hits, including a two-bagger and one jack. The graduate student from Norwood, Massachusetts, plated five runs and scored six himself. The outfielder also had his head up on the base paths with three swiped bags.

Both Breslin's and James' contributions aided Al Thomas to their second YBL Championship in as many years and in franchise history.

RAMS ROUND-UP: BOSTON PARK LEAGUE

Harder had his hand in the E.I. Braves' first BPL title. The outfielder that calls Liverpool, New York, home chipped in four hits, five RBI, six runs and one stolen base when competing in the oldest amateur baseball league in the United States. It is the second year that a Suffolk baseball player hoisted the BPL trophy as Blase Cormier '22 and Shane Lake '22 won the championship with TJO Sports in 2021.

RAMS ROUND-UP: NORTH SHORE BASEBALL LEAGUE

McCarthy took his talents Beverly Recs of the NSBL, which has existed since the inception of baseball in the late 1800's. A Beverly, Massachusetts, product, the infielder registered six base hits and one bomb to go along with one RBI and three runs scored in the regular-season. McCarthy upped the ante in the post season with five hits, and one RBI on a sac fly
