CSC RELEASE | CSC Academic All-District
BOSTON – For the second straight season, Suffolk baseball had a pair of players receive College Sports Communications (CSC) Academic All-District honors in Brett Bucklin and Max Iorio, the national organization announced Tuesday.
Awarded by CSC, formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), to the most accomplished student-athletes for combined academic and athletic achievements each year since 1952, this is the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award for student-athletes to receive.
The 2024 Academic All-District Baseball Team, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. All nominees must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale), be a starter, or important reserve, and have competed in at least 90 percent of a team's competition.
Bucklin and Iorio are the second set of Suffolk baseball teammates to receive the recognition in the same season following in the footsteps of Iorio and Luke Harder, who were the first pair of Rams to take home the feat in the same season last year. Iorio scooped up his second distinction in as many seasons to become the first-ever Suffolk baseball player with multiple academic accolades from CSC in program history. With the two new additions, the Rams baseball team has seen 12 student-athletes combine for 13 academic all-district accolades, seven of which have come in the Anthony Del Prete era.
Bucklin, a grad transfer from Worcester State, was a usual in the Rams rotation on the rubber. The right-handed hurler assembled a 3.14 ERA over 57.1 innings in 16 games played, five starts en route to a first-team All-Commonwealth Coast Conference accolade. The Lynn, Massachusetts native went 2-for on the bump and saved two games with 39 punchouts to his credit. Academically, he compiled a 3.675 GPA, while working towards his Masters of Science in Finance.
Iorio, a junior that calls Hull, Massachusetts home, played in 40 games in the outfield. The left-handed batter produced 41 hits including 13 doubles, four bombs and two triples on a .263/.368/.449 slash line. He brought in 35 runs and scored 34 himself. The management major holds a 3.534 cumulative GPA over six semesters at Suffolk.
The two were instrumental to the Rams 26-17 overall season in which they finished with a program-best 9-5 CCC mark and won a pair of games in the CCC postseason for the first time.
