WEYMOUTH, Mass. – A five-run seventh inning paid off for Wentworth as it took down Suffolk baseball, 9-5, Tuesday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Libbey Field.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the second a bases loaded walk allowed Wentworth to put the first run on the board. The Leopards logged two more runs behind Caleb Cormier's single to center before a double steal let the host tack on one more run for the 4-0 early edge.
- Suffolk responded in the top of the fourth. Outs were traded with walks to put runners on first and second with two outs. Colin Flynn barreled a single up the middle to score the first runner and two batters later Vasili Scangas scored the second to make it a 4-2 game 3.5 frames in.
- The score stood still until the bottom of the sixth when the Leopards looked to add to their advantage as they managed to fill the bases. This made Anthony Del Prete go to his pen and bring in Jackson Garcia to deal for John McDevitt the fresh arm paid off for the blue-and-gold as Garcia retired Mike Sibert with the help from his short stop Sam Armbruster and first baseman Sebastian Lampert to hold the distance at two.
- More insurance managed to come for WIT in the bottom of the seventh as the Leopards logged five runs on four hits and a pair of walks to make things lopsided in their favor, 9-2.
- The Rams made up some ground in their next turn at the dish in the top of the eighth. With two outs and runners on first and second a throwing error by Wentworth's third baseman when pinch hitter Mike Mullaney put the ball into play cleared the bags. Scangas then doubled to left center to plate Mullaney and pull the blue-and-gold within four, 9-5.
- Jack Raimo shut down the side to keep the four-run margin still as the contest headed to the top of the ninth, but the Ramas went down in order themselves to suffer the loss.
PITCHERS PICTURE
- McDevitt started an allowed four runs on five hits and six walks with five punchouts through 5.2 innings.
- Garcia let up four runs on two hits and walks, respectively, in 1.0 inning of relief.
- Raimo finished with a one-run, two-hit stat line over 1.1 frames out of the pen.
- Alec Peruzzi earned the win with a two-run, six-hit, four-walk, seven-strikeout performance over 7.0 innings.
- Tommy Crowley (3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0.2 IP) and Bennett Leary (1.1 IP, 1 K) shoved relief for WIT.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Scangas brought in two runs on two hits, including one double.
- Lampert registered two hits, two runs and one walk.
- Cole Hilliard also went 2-for-4 with one triple and one walk.
- Flynn recorded one hit, one RBI and one run.
- Jack Mihalchik added one hit, one run and one walk.
- Sam Armbruster rounded out the Rams with hits with one to his credit.
- Mullaney scored one run.
NOTEWORTHY
- Scangas supplied a career-high two RBI and matched a personal-best two hits.
- Hilliard has hit in the last two games he has appeared.
- Armbruster (4 hits) and Flynn (2 hits) have hit in back-to-back games.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk now has tomorrow off as its midweek match at Rivier was postponed. The Rams turn their attention to Thursday, April 2 when they head to Wheaton for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
