HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Vikings came out strong with four runs in the opening inning, but Suffolk answered in the bottom of the second with a rally of its own. A hit-by-pitch and two walks loaded the bases before Vasili Scangasdrew a four-pitch walk to force in the Rams' first run. Nick Antoniewicz followed with an RBI single through the left side to cut the deficit to 4-2. Noah Greco then brought in a run with an RBI groundout, and Jack Mihalchik lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Scangas and even the game at 4-4.
  • Suffolk took its first lead in the bottom of the third when Sam Armbruster was hit by a pitch, stole second and third, and came home on Sebastian Lampert's RBI groundout to second to make it 5-4.
  • The Rams broke things open in the fourth. Antonie was hit by a pitch and Greco drew a walk before a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Colin Flynn delivered a two-RBI single, and Armbruster followed with an RBI triple to right field for an 8-4 lead. After Luke Thornton was hit by a pitch and Lampert walked to load the bases, Scangas ripped a two-RBI double down the left field line to stretch the advantage to 10-4 after four innings.
  • Suffolk added two more in the fifth as Greco was hit by a pitch and Mihalchik singled to put runners on the corners. Mike Mullaney was then hit by a pitch to load the bases before Armbruster brought home Greco with a sacrifice fly. Thornton followed with a ground-rule double to center that scored Flynn and pushed the lead to 12-4.
  • Lampert scored the game's final run in the bottom of the eighth when Greco lifted a sacrifice fly to right field for the RBI, sealing Suffolk's 13-4 victory.
