BOSTON – Freshman James Jones of the Suffolk men's basketball team has been named the Conference of New England (CNE) Rookie of the Week following an impressive collegiate debut, the league office announced Monday.
The Boston, Massachusetts native opened his Rams career in style, posting 20 points and nine rebounds in a road win at Maine Farmington. The 6-foot-5 forward shot an efficient 9-for-14 (64.3 percent) from the field, while also producing two assists, one steal and one block in the 75-72 victory. The offensive output is the best by a Rams' rookie since Keenan Robertson opened his collegiate career with a 30-point performance in a 105-65 offensive onslaught of Salem State Nov. 12, 2022.
Jones is the first Suffolk player to earn a league's rookie of the week since Nov. 20, 2023. He also becomes the program's first weekly award recipient since Robertson was named CNE Player of the Week on February 18, 2025.
Jones and the Rams return to action Wednesday, Nov. 12, when they host Colby Sawyer for their 2025 home opener at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court at 7:30 p.m.
