BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk men's basketball freshman Marquis White has been named the Conference of New England (CNE) Rookie of the Week after a three-game stretch in which he averaged 19.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, the league office announced Monday.
The Randolph, Massachusetts, native opened the week at No. 4 Tufts, contributing six points, four rebounds, five assists and a steal.
White ramped things up at the Colby Classic. In Friday's matchup with the host Mules, he posted 23 points on 7-for-18 shooting with two threes, while adding five rebounds, four assists and one steal.
The 6-foot-0 guard followed with his best scoring outing of the season on Saturday in a 90-80 victory over Southern Maine. He produced a career-high 29 points on 10-for-14 shooting with four made triples to go along with three boards and six helpers.
The award marks White's first weekly recognition and keeps Suffolk perfect in CNE rookie honors this season, with James Jones securing the first two weekly nods before White's recognition.
White and the Rams return to action Tuesday, Nov. 25 when they host Emerson at Larry E. Smith and Michael S. Smith Court at 4:00 p.m.
