Jones Tabbed CNE Rookie of the Week for Second Time
Suffolk men’s basketball freshman James Jones has been named the Conference of New England (CNE) Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after helping the Rams to a 2-0 week, improving to 4-1 in conference play, the league office announced Monday.
BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk men's basketball freshman James Jones has been named the Conference of New England (CNE) Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after helping the Rams to a 2-0 week, improving to 4-1 in conference play, the league office announced Monday.
Jones opened the week with a career-high 22 points in a 75-69 road win at the University of New England on Tuesday. The Boston native recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds to go along with his offense output, while also adding two assists in 32 minutes of action. He shot 10-for-16 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range.
The 6-foot-5 small forward followed that performance with another all-around effort Saturday in Suffolk's 73-46 home victory over Johnson & Wales. He finished the decisive triumph with 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist on 5-of-9 shooting.
The recognition marks Jones' second CNE Rookie of the Week honor this season, having also won the award in the opening week. He is the first Ram to collect multiple weekly distinctions from the conference since Keenan Robertson grabbed four player of the week nods a year ago. The pair of rookie of the week awards, meanwhile, is a first for a Suffolk player since Brendan Mulson was tabbed the best rookie over a seven-day stretch four times by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in 2017-18.
Jones and the Rams return to action Wednesday, Jan. 14, when they host Roger Williams at Larry E. Smith and Michael S. Smith Court with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
