WENHAM, Mass. – Behind a double-double from James Jones, Suffolk men's basketball took care of Conference of New England counterpart Gordon, 76-63, Saturday afternoon at the Bennett Center in the regular season finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Suffolk leapt out to a 9-2 lead that turned into a 17-10 edge when it took a timeout at the 8:12 mark. 
  • Out of the break it remained a two-possession game with the Rams ahead 26-22, before the blue-and-gold burst out on 12 straight points to lengthen its lead, 38-22, with 2:43 to go before halftime. 
  • Even play that favored the Fighting Scots, 7-6, sent Suffolk into the locker room up 42-29. 
  • The Rams stretched their advantage to 27, 60-33, within the first seven minutes into the second stanza. 
  • The Fighting Scots battled back with a 15-3 stretch that trimmed the margin to 15, 63-48, with 6:26 to go in regulation. 
  • Back-and-forth play closed out the contest, which allowed Suffolk to secure the 76-63 victory.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Jones finished with an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double with five steals and two assists. He shot 7-for-19 from the field and 3-for-5 from the line. 
  • Declan Davis added 14 points off the bench thanks toa 5-for-7 showing from the floor that included a 4-for-5 effort from downtown. The junior's stat line featured three assists, one board and one takeaway as well. 
  • Nick Verdile added nine points, two caroms and two dimes. 
  • Greg Keane had an all-around effort of eight points, eight rebounds, three handouts, two swats and one steal. 
  • Hatcher Nordquist supplied seven points, five assists and two steals. 
  • The Rams converted the Fighting Scots 17 turnovers into 28 points. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk won its 11th straight game against Gordon to move to 21-7 all-time against the Fighting Scots. 
  • The Rams moved to 9-0 on the road versus Gordon. 
  • The blue-and-gold is 11-1 versus Gordon in the Jeff Juron era. 
  • The win marks Juron's 150th on Suffolk's bench. The 11th-year head coach is now 150-121 all-time. 
  • Jones had his fifth double-double of the season. 
  • Davis matched personal-best four triples made.
