Sophomore Vijay Sakura collected Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week after anchoring the Rams to a 408-419 victory over Wentworth in the Suffolk men’s golf team’s spring opener Thursday, April 14, the league office announced.
BIDDEFORD, Maine – Sophomore Vijay Sakuru collected Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week after anchoring the Rams to a 408-419 victory over Wentworth in the Suffolk men's golf team's spring opener Thursday, April 14, the league office announced.
Sakura, who made his collegiate debut at the George Wright Golf Course last week, won the individual title in the head-to-head match with the Leopards with a plus-4, 74 performance. He finished two strokes of the second-place performer Jared Turgeon of WIT.
The accolade is Sakura's first of the season and third for the blue-and-gold this year as Mauro Stanchieri was awarded as the conference's best rookie over a seven-day stretch twice this fall.
Suffolk will be back in action this spring on Monday, April 25 when it competes at the Roger Williams Invitational at the Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
