CANDIA, N.H. – The Battle for Boston Invitational title remained in Beantown as Suffolk men's golf captured first place in the quad tournament Friday afternoon at Candia Woods Golf Links.
The Rams compiled a team score of 301 (+17) to top the four-team field of their own event. Norwich (309) slid into second, while Gordon and Wentworth rounded out the field with a 315 and 321, respectively.
Suffolk's sophomore Michael Gallagher paced the blue-and-gold golfers on the green as he finished just one over 71-par on the 6,507-yard course to share first with fellow Conference of New England (CNE) competitor, Wentworth's Garrett Kendall. The opponents went head-to-head in a two-hole playoff for sole individual medalist honors. The Novi, Michigan native fell to Kendall on the second hold to slid into second place.
Trey Connolly rounded out the podium as Suffolk's senior captain was two strokes behind Gallagher to take third.
Junior Ryan Mollica shared sixth with a 76 and senior captain Christopher Sinopoli rounded out the Rams' scorers with a 79, good for a share of 10th.
Jonathan Donovan was featured in the 20-golfer field in the Granite State as well. The senior tied for 12th with an 80, but had a highlight-performance on the day as he shot a hole-in-one on the 15th hole.
Suffolk will ride this winning-momentum into the CNE Championship Oct. 4-5 at the Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
