WARWICK, R.I. – Michael Gallagher captured individual medalist honors to pace Suffolk men's golf to a second-place showing at the RIC Spring Invitational at the Valley Country Club.
The Rams sat in first place after day one with a 297, one stroke ahead of Wesleyan. On Saturday, the blue-and-gold card had six more strokes on Saturday to finish with a 36-hole card of 600, three strokes behind the Cardinal to take second in the nine-team field.
Gallagher led the charge with an impressive day one as he was six strokes under par (66), which is the best-known 18-hole score in Suffolk's recent history. The sophomore shot a 74 on day to, but thanks to his hefty day one advantage, he finished the two-day tournament with a -2 (142), to top the 45-golfer field.
Freshman Patricio Zapiain found a place in the top 10 as well as he shared eighth alongside Rhode Island College's Mike Decesare.
Senior Trey Connolly was two spots behind his teammate in 10th with a 152 (+8). He tied Wesleyna's Johnathan Harlukowicz.
Perry Gaudreau shared 23rd with a 157 and Josh Gross rounded out the Rams with a 159, good for a tie of 31st.
The blue-and-gold concludes its spring slate Sunday, April 26 at the NEC Invitational at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester, New Hampshire.
