Salve Regina Takes Down Men’s Hockey, 5-1

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – Suffolk men's hockey suffered a 5-1 setback to Salve Regina, who is receiving votes in the latest USCHO Poll, Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Friday night at Portsmouth Abbey.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seahawks put up the first two goals of the evening over the first 9:04 minutes of action including Danny Eruzione's third marker of the season that came 41 seconds into action to give the hosts a 2-0 cushion. With 1:07 remaining in the first frame, Brendan Heinze took advantage of Salve Regina's John McLean in the box for interference and put the Rams on the board. 

Suffolk came out of the first intermission riding the momentum of Heinze's first goal of the year, but the Seahawks kept the blue-and-gold quiet with another pair of goals from Colin Clapton in an 8:07 span. The Rams were kept quiet over the second set of 20 minutes and Cameron Russo put a strike away 5:26 into the third period to make it a 5-1 Seahawks game.

The Rams could not make up the four-goal ground and Salve Regina skated away with the victory. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

• Michael Levine started the game for Suffolk. The junior netminder suffered the setback, his second of the year, after giving up a pair of goals. In the defeat, Levine made nine saves.
• Will Ribas came on in relief for the Rams and turned aside 18 attempts.
• Blake Wojtala picked up the win with a 31-save performance. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Shots were even on the night with each team firing off 32 attempts.
• The Rams went 1-for-4 on the man-up opportunity.
• Suffolk killed off all five of its penalties.
• Heinze scored the lone goal for the blue-and-gold with Miller Rubin and Nick Mosher dishing out assists on the strike.
• Clapton and Vincenzo Renda led Salve Regina's offense with two points apiece. The former scored twice, while the latter at had two helpers.
• Russo and Jack Billings each scored for the Seahawks, while Kevin Clare, Nick Cyr, Shaun Patry and Timothy Sweeny all dished out one assist. 

NOTEWORTHY

• Both of Heinze's goals this season have come on the powerplay.
• Rubin recorded his first collegiate point with a handout, while Mosher notched his first point of the season.
