Lowe, O’Brien Pick Up CCC Weekly Awards

CCC RELEASE

BEVELRY, Mass. – Suffolk men's hockey saw a pair of Rams scoop up Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly honors after opening weekend as Devin Lowe was named Player of the Week and Joe O'Brien earned Rookie of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.

In the opener versus Albertus Magnus, Lowe logged one goal and one assist, while O'Brien set-up both of Suffolk's goals in the 6-2 setback.

A day later in the 7-5 triumph over Salem State, Lowe notched one goal and two assists to tie a career-high three-point performance. O'Brien, meanwhile, notched one strike and three handouts. The pair were crucial in the victory and the most goals scored by Suffolk since an 8-4 triumph over Castleton, Jan. 11, 2020.

Both Lowe and O'Brien earned the first weekly awards of their collegiate career. The former, a graduate student from Owings Mills, Maryland, is the first CCC Player of the Week under Shawn McEachern's guidance, with Nick Lachaine's recognition Jan. 31, 2022 the last Player of the Week distinction for a Ram. O'Brien, meanwhile, a freshman from Wakefield, Massachusetts, is the second-ever Suffolk student-athlete to be tabbed the best rookie over a seven-day stretch with McEachern on the bench, first since Ryan Webb received the feat Jan. 9, 2023. The pair of weekly awards is the most awards in a week for the blue-and-gold since it swept the conference's weekly nods Jan. 31, 2022.

The twosome and Suffolk transition into CCC competition this weekend when they face Salve Regina in a home-and-home series. The Rams will travel to Middleton, Rhode Island, Friday, Nov. 3 for their CCC debut, before hosting the Seahawks at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2:50 p.m.
