BEVERLY, Mass. – Nolan Leonard of the Suffolk men's hockey team picked up Conference of New England (CNE) Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The laurels come behind a two-point effort by the freshman.
The forward started the week by recording his first point in a lopsided 5-0 offensive onslaught of Framingham. He assisted on the Rams fifth goal of the night, his first collegiate point.
Three days later, the Braintree, Massachusetts, product lit the lamp at then-No. 12 the University of New England, to produce a one in back-to-back games.
The weekly accolade is the first for Leonard in his collegiate career and marks the first time a Suffolk skater was named the conference's best rookie in a seven-day span since Jake Grace earned the distinction Dec. 4, 2023. Leonard is the second Ram to take home a weekly accolade from the CNE this season as CJ Hapward owns a pair of goalie of the week recognitions Dec. 9 and Jan. 7, respectively.
Leonard and the Rams are back in action this weekend with a home-and-home series versus No. 14 Endicott. Suffolk will visit Beverly, Massachusetts Friday, Jan. 24 before hosting the Gulls Saturday, Jan. 25. Both contests have 7:00 p.m. starts.
