Freshman Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Albertus Magnus Falcons (2-2, 1-0 GNAC) over the Suffolk University Rams (1-3, 0-1 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. The game was a rematch from the 2010 GNAC Tournament Finals which the Rams won en route to clinching the program's first ever NCAA Tournament berth.
Senior Danny Lloyd (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) opened the scoring in the game's third minute as he bolted a free kick following a Falcons penalty in for the game's first score, however that would be all the offense the Rams could muster as sophomore goalkeeper Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) would turn away seven shots for his second victory of the season.
Barrett paced the Falcons offense scoring team leading second and third goals of the season to give the Falcons the conference win in the league play opener.
Barrett scored his first goal of the contest in the 38th minute as he converted on a pass from senior Jamal Howard (West Haven, Conn.) and pushed his shot to the right of Suffolk goalkeeper James Potter (North Kingston, R.I.) from 15 yards out.
Barrett and the Falcons would get some luck in the game's 74th minute as the freshman forward was credited with the game-winner after his shot deflected off of a Rams' defender and ended up in the back of the net.
Albertus had the advantage in shots throughout the contest as they held a 19-13 margin over Suffolk.
Potter made six saves in a losing effort for the Rams.
Albertus will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they host Regis College in non-conference action. Suffolk will take on Lesley University in a non-league matchup on Monday evening at 8:00pm at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols in Cambridge.
