Men’s Soccer Coasts Past Curry, 5-1

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer reentered the win column in convincing fashion as it cruised past Curry, 5-1, Saturday afternoon at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park. Seven Rams provided a point in the Commonwealth Coast Conference victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Thanks to Brady Sorensen's first goal of the day 13:18 into the contest the Rams took a 1-0 lead into halftime.  

Out of the locker room, the Rams poured in four unanswered goals to build a comfortable five-goal cushion. Matthew Belluardo used a set-up from Tommy Handelsman to double the distance at the 57:35 mark. 

From there, the blue-and-gold poured in three goals over a seven-minute span as Matteo Simonini, Sorensen and Taj Jensen all found the back of the net.  

With 1:36 left on the clock, Angelo Santostefano eliminated the shutout as he put away a feed from McCann for the 5-1 final.   

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

• Xander Balog registered four saves in the victory.
• Brendan Cunningham had four stops in the setback. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Sorensen scored a pair of goals to lead Suffolk's offensive output. 
• Jensen contributed three points on one goal and one assist. 
• Belluardo and Simonini logged one goal each. 
• Handelsman, Diego Pierantozzi and Miguel Varela all handed out one assist. 
• Suffolk outshot Curry, 24-14. 
• The Rams put nine shots on target, while the Colonels had five attempts on net. 
• The blue-and-gold took six corner kicks and Curry had four corners.

• Suffolk defeated Curry for the first time since Oct. 23, 2021 to move to 5-1-1 all-time against the Colonels. 
• The Rams are unbeaten in Boston against Curry, 4-0-0. 
• The Rams have outscored the Colonels, 21-10, in the all-time series. 
• Suffolk is unbeaten, 2-0-1 against Curry under Bill Maddock's guidance. 
• The five goals scored are the most for the Rams versus the Colonels all-time. 
• The four-goal margin of victory is the largest in the all-time series with Curry. 
• Jensen has recorded points in back-to-back games. In that stretch he has two goals and one assist.
• Sorensen scored a season-best two goals. 
• Sorensen extended his point streak to a career-best three games. Over that span, the senior has three goals and one helper.
