BOSTON – Taj Jensen and Jack Phelps will return to their roles as Suffolk men's soccer captains for the 2024 season, head coach Bill Maddock unveiled.
The twosome joined forces a year ago as co-captains and are back for their second season in 2024. They are the first twosome to repeat as captains since Trevor Murdock and Dai Podziewski served back-to-back terms in the role in 2021 and 2022.
"Our returning captains, Jack (Phelps) and Taj (Jensen), bring invaluable leadership and experience to the team," Maddock said. "Both have been instrumental in our past successes, and their dedication and drive will be crucial as we navigate the challenges of this season. I have complete confidence in their ability to lead by example and inspire their teammates."
Phelps has been a consistent all-conference performer for the blue-and-gold in the last two seasons. A year ago, the defensive midfielder from Westborough, Massachusetts added to his resume with a first-team selection. He has been crucial to Suffolk's backline, starting all 57 games he has appeared with one goal and one assist featured on his stat line.
Jensen, meanwhile, received his first all-league nod last year with a spot on the third team after providing eight points on three goals and two assists to Suffolk's 36-goal offense. Throughout his career, the midfielder that calls Providence, Rhode Island home, has laced up his notched 20 points on six strikes and eight handouts in 58 appearances.
The pair will lead Suffolk into its 2024 debut, a city clash with Emmanuel, Friday, Aug. 30 at 3:00 p.m. at East Boston Memorial Park's James A. Sartori Stadium.
