Men’s Soccer Downs Dean in Resumed Game, 6-2

BOSTON – Suffolk men's soccer closed out its suspended matchup against Dean from August 29 on Tuesday Evening at James A. Sartori Field at East Boston Memorial Park with a 6-2 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The contest picked up with 11:38 remaining in the first half and the Rams holding a 3-2 lead, behind previous goals from Mohamed Mehaya and a pair from Francisco Valck.
  • Suffolk extended its advantage immediately after the restart as Valck dribbled through the midfield and slipped a short pass to Zach Vlachos, who tucked his shot inside the near post in the 40th minute.
  • Mehaya added to the tally in the second frame as he chipped the goalkeeper after being set up by Vlachos in the 57th minute.
  • The blue-and-gold capped the scoring in the 66th minute as Christian Gardner headed home a in-swinging cross from Maxi Fadel. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Nathan Harlow started the original contest and logged 23 minutes.
  • Ian Caldwell and Carter Sewell relieved Harlow and recorded one save each.
  • Noah Godwin started the contest for the Bulldogs and registered five saves.
  • Noah Amaral closed out the resumed matchup with four saves. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Mehaya and Valck registered two goals and one assist apiece. 
  • Vlachos produced one strike and one handout.
  • Gardner scored one goal. 
  • Fadel finished with one helper. 
  • Suffolk outshot Dean, 24-6 and held an 15-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Rams earned three corner opportunities compared to one for the Bulldogs.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk won its third game in a row. It is the longest win streak for the blue-and-gold since it rattled off five consecutive victories Sept. 15-30, 2023.
  • The six-goal output marked the Rams' largest offensive output of the season.
  • The six strikes in a single outing are the most for Suffolk's offense since it poured in six in a 6-1 triumph at Mass. Maritime Sept. 17, 2024. 
  • The Rams and Bulldogs met for the second time in series history.
  • Suffolk picked up its first win over Dean, evening the all-time series at 1-1-0.
  • Mehaya logged a personal-best five points and tied a career-high two goals. The freshman forwarded extended his point streak to three games. In that span he has four goals and three assists. 
  • Valck, who scored his first two goals of the season, matched a career-best two strikes.
  • Vlachos pushed his point streak to three games. In that stretch he has two markers and three handouts. The junior matched a personal-best in points (3), goals (1) and assists (1). 
  • Gardner registered the first goal of his collegiate career.
  • Fadel recorded his first career point with one assist.
  • Sewell made his Ram debut and recorded his first save for the side.
