Men’s Soccer Slips to Roger Williams, 3-2

BRISTOL, R.I. – Suffolk men's soccer could not hold on to an early two-goal lead as roger Williams, who is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, poured in three unanswered to hand the Rams a 3-2 Conference of New England (CNE) setback Saturday at Bayside Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Roger Williams 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-3-2, 3-2-0 CNE) | Roger Williams (9-0-4, 4-0-1 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Roger Williams was whistled for a penalty just outside the box, which gave Suffolk a prime free kick opportunity. Francisco Valck set up for the shot and lofted the ball high over a six-defender Hawk wall that sailed into the top of the net to break the scoreless action open in the 26th minute.
  • Insurance came for the blue-and-gold 3:10 into the second half. Valck had the rock at the midfield and slid a go-ahead pass through multiple Roger Williams defenders that Diego Pierantozzi picked up and finished to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage at the 48:10 mark.
  • Too much celebration by Pierantozzi caused the senior to be assessed his second yellow of the day and he would take a seat to force the Rams to play a man-down. The Hawks took advantage and responded to Suffolk's strike with one of their own 6:28 later. After a Roger Williams throw in Dylan Robbins lofted a long shot that met Nathan Harlow's gloves, but came out and Max Pateanaude was there to tuck in the rebound and slice the blue-and-gold's lead in half, 2-1.
  • Suffolk continuously kept trying to clear the ball from its own zone, Roger Williams managed to maintain possession. A long kick towards the call pulled Harlow out. The keeper was unable to glove the ball and Noah Massotti headed it before Tyler Jastrab connected to even things at 2-all with 26 minute remaining in regulation.
  • Dylan Thomas sniped the go-ahead goal for Roger Williams with no help with just under 10 minutes to go in the second.
  • The Rams were unable to get a shot on target the rest of the way to suffer the defeat.

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Ian Caldwell, who entred the game for Harlow, took the loss.
  • Harlow made five saves in nearly 70 minutes of play.
  • Eliot Panaccione earned the victory behind a one-save effort.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Pierantozzi provided one goal.

  • The Hawks had six corner kicks compared to the Rams two.
