BRISTOL, R.I. – After 110 minutes of action, the Rams and Hawks sat deadlocked 1-1 to force a shootout with the Conference of New England (CNE) Championship on the line. The second-seeded Suffolk men's soccer team saw its chance of hosting the league trophy for the second straight season slip away as top-seeded Roger Williams prevailed in penalty kicks, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field.

REGULATION ROUND-UP 

  • Roger Williams controlled possession through the opening ten minutes as Suffolk struggled to find rhythm in the buildup. The Hawks capitalized first when Dylan Robbins sent a cross over the Rams' backline, where Max Patenaude redirected it home to give Roger Williams the early lead.
  • The Rams responded in the 24th minute as Mohamed Mehaya was fouled inside the box, earning Suffolk a penalty. Francisco Valck calmly converted from the spot to level the match at 1-1.
  • In the 35th minute, Nathan Harlow came up big for Suffolk, tipping a dangerous shot over the bar to preserve the tie heading into halftime.
  • Harlow was tested again early in the second half, punching away a strong effort from Liam Blaisdell in the 48th minute to keep the score even.
  • Suffolk capitalized on a counterattack that resulted in a corner kick. The ensuing play found Dylan Rowe at the top of the box, where he fired a shot that as parried away by Eliot Panaccione in the 62nd minute. 

OVERTIME OUTLOOK

  • Late in the first overtime period, Mehaya had a prime look in front of goal, but Eliot Panaccione came up with a crucial leg save to keep the Hawks alive. Just minutes later, Luke Blawn fired a chance from the center of the box that sailed over the crossbar.
  • The second overtime period was a back-and-forth battle, with both sides earning corner opportunities. Roger Williams nearly found the winner in the 108th minute on a free kick that tested Nathan Harlow but ultimately missed the target.
  • Harlow came up big once more in the 110th minute, denying Dylan Robbins' effort from the right flank to send the match to penalties. 

SHOOTOUT SCENARIO

  • Brandon Rodriguez opened the shootout for Roger Williams, converting his attempt, while Matthew Belluardo answered for Suffolk with a low-driven shot into the bottom left corner.
  • Max Patenaude missed the Hawks' second attempt, sending his shot over the crossbar, and Dylan Trachtenberg capitalized for the Rams to give Suffolk a 2-1 edge after two rounds.
  • Aidan Jennings converted in the third round for Roger Williams, while Diego Pierantozzi sent his effort high, leveling the shootout at 2-2.
  • Patrick Marino and Maxi Fadel each buried their shots in the fourth round before Jorge Beltran calmly placed his attempt into the right corner. Valck's deciding effort was saved, as Roger Williams walked off with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS 

  • Harlow had five saves in the stalemate. 
  • Eliot Panaccione secured four stops in the draw.

  • Valck was responsible for Suffolk's lone goal as the junior buried a penalty kick in the first half. 
  • Roger Williams held a slim 19-17 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.

  • Suffolk wrapped up its 23rd overall, fifth in the CNE and fifth straight league postseason play.
