BIDDEFORD, Maine – In a back-and-forth battle, Abhi Patel's single victory secured a 4-3 Conference of New England (CNE) victory for Suffolk men's tennis over the University of New England Thursday afternoon at the Blue Cyclone Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Nor'Easters' second tandem picked up the first decision of the day, but the Rams top and third teams came out victorious to send Suffolk into singles play with the 1-0 lead. 
  • Jason Yany defeated Tyler Mason, 6-0, 6-1, in the fifth singles position to pad the Rams' advantage to a pair. 
  • UNE leveled the playing field behind courts six and three, in that order, before Gabriel Soave sent Suffolk back in front when he bested Logan Flor, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3. 
  • Christian Gardner suffered his first singles setback of the season by the Nor'Easters ace Drake Turcotte, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2. That loss tied the match at 3-all.
  • The outcome would come down to the second spot where Patel competed against Liam Miller. Patel took the first set, 7-5, fell in the second, 6-4, and locked up the game and match with a 6-3 third-set victory.
