BOSTON – Suffolk men's tennis will play its first and last non-conference contest of 2026 when it heads to Rhode Island College Thursday, April 16 for a 3:30 p.m. first serve.

Suffolk men's tennis saw its win streak end Tuesday night as Colby Sawyer defeated the Rams, 6-1, in Conference of New England (CNE) play at Belmont Hill.

RAMS RUNDOWN

  • Suffolk is 3-7 on the year and in Conference of New England (CNE) contests with Thursday's tilt the lone out-of-league action of the year. 
  • Christian Gardner is the winningest singles player for the blue-and-gold this season with a 6-1 ledger split between courts one (4-1) and two (2-0). 
  • Abhi Patel has also taken on the role as the Rams' ace and is 0-5 in such matches. Overall, he is 2-7 in singles action with the pair of victories coming from the second slot. 
  • Gabriel Soave (2-6) and Jason Yany (3-7) have produced singles win this season as well. 
  • In doubles, the twosome of Gardner and Patel is Suffolk's top tandem and the sophomores sit 3-2 on the season together.  

ANCHORMEN ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

  • Rhode Island College has won five straight matches to sit 5-2 on the year. 
  • Prior to hosting Suffolk Thursday, RIC will face Western Connecticut State Wednesday.
  • Ethan Clegg is the most productive singles player at 6-1 on the season with a 5-1 record in the second spot. 
  • Travis Chartier is the usual ace for the Anchormen and holds a 2-4 mark. 
  • In doubles, Chartier combines his forces with Kyle Neuendorf as the No. 1 team. The duo is 2-4 on the year. 
  • Clegg and James McShane, meanwhile, sport a 4-1 ledger split between courts one (1-0) and two (3-1).  

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk leads the all-time series dating back to 2009, 8-6. 
  • Suffolk looks to snap a six-match skid against RIC. 
  • The blue-and-gold was bested by the Anchormen, 6-1, in the last meeting, March 27, 2025.
  • The Rams last victory over the Anchormen came via an 8-1 decision March 29, 2016. 
  • The blue-and-gold has never defeated Rhode Island College under Scott Blanchard's guidance. The Rams are 0-4 versus the Anchormen in the Blanchard era.
