Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Finishes Fifth at CNE Championships

WENHAM, Mass. – Tim Barry of the Suffolk men's outdoor track & field captured a pair of individual titles to lead Suffolk men's outdoor track & field to a fifth-place performance at the 2025 Conference of New England Track & Field Championships at Gordon's Brigham Ahtletic Complex.  

Barry, who was named the championships' Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning the 800 and 1500, paced the Rams to a team score of 81, good for fifth in the field of seven.

Hartford claimed the crown with a 167. Roger Williams and Gordon rounded out the podium with a 153 and 128, respectively. 

CNE CHAMPS

Suffolk claimed gold medals in three events: 

  • 800 – Tim Barry
  • 1500 – Tim Barry
  • 5000 - Thomas Novy

ALL-CNE
Suffolk student-athletes who placed first (gold medalist), second (silver medalist) or third (bronze medalist) in an event earned all-conference first-team, second-team and third-team honors.

  • 3 All-CNE First-Team – Tim Barry (800, 1500), Thomas Novy (5000)
  • 1 All-CNE Second-Team – Michael Makiej (high jump) 

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Barry won the 1500 with a time of 4:03.81. Hayden Green took fifth behind a time of 4:12.66 and Kely Maloney was right behind him with a 4:15.43 showing. Declan Shannon participated in the event as well with a 4:24.52. 
  • Barry took the top spot on the podium in the 800 as well as he finished the two laps around the track in 1:54.61. Maloney (2:05.78) and Michael Najarian (2:19.30) were featured in the field of 23 as well. 
  • Novy ran to a first-place finish in the 5000 thanks to a time of 15:23.41. Sean Jacobsen (15:38.80), Green (15:42.86, Connor Hayward (16:43.83) and Jacob Dubin (17:20.46) ran the 5k as well. 
  • Nathan Fernandes (52.21) and Joshua Durand (53.00) crossed the tape one after another in the 400 in seventh and eighth. Matthew McGoldrick rounded out the runner field as he made the full lap around the track in 1:00.57. 
  • Fernandes secured one point in the 200 with an eighth-place performance thanks to a time of 23.20. Pereira (23.82), Durand (24.02) and Eddy (24.80) ran a half lap around the track as well. 
  • Brendan Eddy (12.03) and Cormac O'Brien (12.48) sprinted the 100. 
  • Sebastian Vickers-Richard placed seventh in the 3000 steeplechasse with a 10:44.20 showing.  

HAVE TO KNOW 'BOUT THE HURDLERS

  • Tighe Hosman was just off the podium in the 110 hurdles as his time of 16.07 was good for fourth. 
  • Hosman hurdled to 10th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.20.  

RAMS RELAY

  • The foursome of Joshua DurandIoan PereiraNico Carrillo and Nathan Fernandes finished sixth in the 4x100 with a time of 45.00. 
  • In the 4x400, Durand, Hosman, Fernandes and Barry finished fifth with a time of 3:31.63.  

JUMPERS JIST

  • Makiej was the runner-up in the high jump as he cleared 1.95 meters.
  • Joshua Catino secured sixth in the pole vault as he cleared 3.50-meters, while Nico Carrillo's 2.90 meters was good for eighth place. 
  • Nathan Fernandes (5.90) finished seventh in the long jump and Michael Frodelius (5.31) was featured in the field of 25 as well.
  • Frodelius finished 11th in the triple jump with a 11.37-meter effort.  

THROWERS THOUGHTS

  • Edward Abouzeid heaved the javelin 44.66 meters to take seventh. 
  • Elijah Brown placed sixth in the hammer with a 42.05 meter toss. Connor Brown (27.66) was also featured in the 17-participant field.
  • Connor Brown's 9.21-meter shot put heave was good for 23rd.   

NOTEWORTHY

  • Barry was named the Championship's Most Outstanding Track Performer after he secured 20 points for Suffolk with a pair of first place performances. 
  • Barry reclaimed championship status in the 1500, which he first garnered in 2023. He is now a two-time champ in the event. 
  • Like Barry, reclaimed the individual 5k title that he first earned in 2023, after being the runner-up a year ago in the event. 
  • Suffolk captured four all-conference awards, the most since picking up six in 2023. 
  • The three first-team all-league accolades are the most for the Rams since they garnered eight in 2022. 

SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
The Rams that qualified for regionals are set to compete at New Englands next weekend, May 2-3, at the United State Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.
