NEW LONDON, Conn. – Suffolk men's outdoor track & field secured 24th at the New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
The Rams team finish comes behind 10 points. They shared the spot with Amherst, Vermont State Johnson, and Western Connecticut State.
ALL-REGION
- Tim Barry (1500), Michael Makiej (high jump), Nico Carrillo (decathlon) all grabbed all-region honors thanks to their top-8 finishes.
RAMS RECORDS
- Makiej logged a personal-best in the high jump of 2.00.
RAMS RUNNERS
- Barry recorded a sixth-place showing in the 1500 behind a time of 3:58.62.
- Barry compiled a 2:00.36 in the 800 to take 10th.
JUMPERS JIST
- Makiej cleared 2.00 meters in the high jump to claim the third spot on the podium.
DECATHLON
- Carrillo, who was the first-ever Ram to compete in the decathlon earlier this season, earned an all-region spot as he finished eighth. He placed third in both the long jump (5.93) and pole vault (3.60) and secured fifth in the high jump (1.72) and shot put (10.51). His discus throw (28.14) was good for sixth, while his 1500 time of 5:25.29 sealed up seventh. He had a top-10 time in the 110 hurdles (18.28), took 10th in the 100 (11.88) and 11th in the 400 (56.55) en route to a top-eight finish in the event.
RAMS RELAYS
- The foursome of Nathan Fernandes, Tighe Hosman, Kely Maloney and Joshua Durand combined forces in the 4x400. That group put together a time of 3:32.48, good for 20th.
NOTEWORTHY
- Suffolk had a team finish at outdoor regionals for the first time since 2022 and third time in program history.
- The three all-region honorees in a single season are the most by Suffolk in a single season, upstaging the previous mark of two set in 2022.
- Barry, Makiej and Carrillo are first-team outdoor all-region honorees.
- Makiej is the first Rams high jumper in program history to compete at outdoor regionals.
- Barry was the first male student-athlete to compete at outdoor regionals for the third time. He is the second-ever Suffolk student-athlete to make three outdoor New England appearances, first since Amanda Walden accomplished the feat a year ago.

Makiej is set to compete at NEICAAA Championships next weekend, May 9-10, with a handful of Rams set to take their talents to the Franson Last Chance Qualifier.
