NEW ORLEANS – Suffolk men's cross country moved to ninth in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Coaches Regional Rankings, the national organization announced Tuesday.
The Rams, who were eighth in the preseason poll two weeks ago, dipped down one spot after finishing sixth in its season opener, the Short Course Classic, Friday, Sept. 2. The blue-and-gold posted 160 points, right behind fellow NCAA Division III member Eastern Connecticut State (143).
The USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Coaches' Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strengths with current season results, when applicable, in determining in a rank-order of squad potential. Only USTFCCCA member programs are eligible to receive a ranking. The weekly regional ranking by the USTFCCCA began in 2010.
Suffolk has been a staple in the regional poll since week one of the 2021 campaign and is the only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) representative to make the list thus far this season.
The Rams get back to racing this weekend when they head to Dartmouth, Massachusetts, for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday, Sept. 17.
