NEW ORLEANS – Suffolk men's cross country and one Ram, Hayden Green, was rewarded for his academic accolades by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Rams garnered the 2024 All-Academic Team Award, while Green received an All-Academic Athlete nod, the national organization unveiled.
In order for a team to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship.
Suffolk's squad combined for a 3.34 GPA to hit the academic qualification and the Rams tied a program-best eighth at NCAA Division III East Regional Championships Nov. 16, 2024 at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds en route to the program's eighth straight team academic award from the national organization.
Suffolk was one six Conference of New England (CNE) teams featured on the 200 NCAA DIII list along with Endicott (3.55), Wentworth (3.58), Hartford (3.39), the University of New England (3.22) and Roger Williams (3.1).
For a student-athlete to be considered for the award, they must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a scale a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
Green earned his second straight honor. In the classroom, the undergraduate law concentrator notched a 3.811 GPA. On the course, junior who hails from Redondo Beach, California native clocked 25:54.74 on the 8k regional course, good for 34th in the 228-runner field. He, who became the third-ever male runner in the blue-and-gold's history to garner the award, joins Thomas Novy and Matyas Csiki-Fejer with multiple USTFCCCA Academic Awards in cross country on his resume.
Overall, there were 351 men from 131 different institutions who were named All-Academic Athletes for their combined athletic and academic efforts during the 2024 cross country campaign. Novy is one of four CNE student-athletes to etch their names on the national list with a pair of Wentworth Leopards in Ryan Ballard and Ezra Blasko and one Endicott Gull, Josh Lehmann.
