LAST TIME OUT
Kennedy Reyes had a day in the circle, scattering three hits and two walks over a complete-game effort to anchor the Rams to a 2-0 shutout over Western New England in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader at East Boston Memorial Park Saturday afternoon.
After being swept in five frames in the doubleheader at Brandeis, Suffolk moved to 6-8 on the season.
Caitlin Murphy has been a light in Suffolk's lineup as the centerfielder hits .410 and slugs .513 for an on-base percentage of .478. The freshman has seven RBI and eight runs on 16 hits, three of which went for extra bases. Constance Phelan (.364, 8H, 3RBI), Ashley Zulla (.344, 11H, 7 RBI, 3R) and Brianna Loughlin (.333, 4H) all provided sparks for the Rams at the dish.
Phelan has proven to be the most consistent arm for Suffolk. The sophomore has worked 26.2 innings, allowing 39 hits, 19 earned runs and fanned 14 batters. Kennedy Reyes is a go-to for the Rams in the circle. The rookie has taken the rubber for 29.1 frames in which she gave up 22 earned runs on 37 hits and sat down a staff-best 17 hitters.
Lesley heads into Tuesday's tilt 12-6 on the year and is coming off a series split with Becker Saturday.
Jordan Day is potent at the plate for the Lynx as the sophomore brings in a slash line of .609/.639/.922 with 39 hits, 12 extra-base knocks including four dingers, 14 RBI and 27 runs scored and has yet to be fanned by a twirler this season. Ashleigh Acker is also a spark at the dish as the senior, who hits .492, has 30 hits, 23 RBI and 16 runs scored to her credit.
The freshman tandem of Kara Haga and Jen Thorburn have proven to be the one-two punch in the circle for Lesley. Haga holds a staff-best 2.69 ERA over 28.2 innings of work with 15 strikeouts, while Thorburn is second on the staff with an ERA of 3.67 in 47.2 frames of action and a team-high 41 Ks. Day is also a standout pitcher for the Lynx with 36.2 innings under her belt, 37 punchouts and a 5.92 ERA.
