CLERMONT, Fla. – Suffolk softball combined for 12 hits, including five for extra bases, to handle Regis, 10-1, in five innings Sunday afternoon at Legends Way Complex at The Spring Games.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 10 | Regis 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-1) | Regis (0-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Suffolk took a 1-0 lead in the first when Jolie Quintana rocked a two-out solo shot to left center.
- Two innings later the Rams extended their advantage. Dana Still led off with a double down the left field line before Catherine Carignan and Ava Lanza both singled to fill the bases. One out later, Julia Mills brought in Still with a sac fly to left then Carginan and Lanza came around when Claire Basaldua barreled a double to right field to pad the margin to 4-0.
- The Pride found its way on the board in the home half of the third. A pair of singles and a stolen base set up runners in the corners. When Lynsey Kay put the ball into play Suffolk went for the out on second, which allowed the runner on third to cross home and put one run on the board for Regis.
- The blue-and-gold piled on three more in the fourth and fifth, respectively, to turn on the mercy rule and Suffolk's defense combined with the twirling of Cynthia Rucinski limited the Pride to just one base runner the rest of the way to preserve the victory.
