Marywood Tops Softball, 4-2

Marywood Tops Softball, 4-2

CLERMONT, Fla. – Suffolk softball suffered its second setback of the 2026 season as it fell to Marywood, 4-2, Monday morning at Legends Way at The Spring Games.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Marywood 4
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-2) | Marywood (1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the bottom of the second, a bobble by Julia Mills at second allowed Marywood to keep the inning going and set-up a first-and-third situation. The Pacers were successful on the double steal to put the first run on the board and have a runner in scoring position in Marley Sarafinko. Lauryn Notari laced a perfectly placed double down the left field line that scored Sarafinko and doubled the distance, 2-0.
  • Small ball factored into scoring in the fourth. Renee McDonald worked a walk to open the inning, moved over behind Sarafinko's sac bunt and two batters later Marina Antal took Alex Dusman's spot at the plate as the pinch hitter.
  • Sacrifices factored in the next inning for the Pacers as well. T Para led off with a two-bagger to center. She took third thanks to Marissa Hoffman's sac bunt and scored on Sarafinko's Amber Little's sac fly to left to pad the margin to 4-0.
  • Suffolk's bats came to life in the top of the sixth on a two-out rally. Mills, Claire Basaldua and Roma Braidbarreled back-to-back-to-back base hits to chuck the bags. Lily Newhall helped herself as she drew a full count walk to bring the first Ram of the day in. Giavanna Bellino tapped an infield blooper right outside the pitcher's circle that was out of diving reach of twirler Emily Dubisz, which allowed Basaldua to cross home and slice the gap in half, 4-2.
  • Newhall escaped the bottom of the sixth with no damage despite Marywood getting a pair of base runners, which brought up the top of the Rams' lineup in the top of the seventh. The blue-and-gold's bats went down in order though to take the 4-2 loss.

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Newhall took the loss as she gave up four runs, one earned, on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
  • Megan Linkhorst earned the decision behind a two-run, four-hit, 2.1-inning performance of relief.
  • Brianna Voyer started and tossed 3.1 scoreless innings with three hits and one K.
  • Emily Dubisz closed and received the save with one hit and one walk on her stat line.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Mills and Bellino led Suffolk's offense with 2-for-3 efforts each. The former scored one run and the latter brought one in.
  • Newhall notched one hit, one RBI and one walk, the only Ram to draw a base on balls in the contest.
  • Casaldua chipped in one hit and one run.
  • Jolie Quintana had one hit, a double.
  • Braid rounded out the Rams with a hit with one to her credit.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk and Marywood met for the first time.
  • Mills (7 hits) and Basaldua (5 hits) extended their hit streaks to four games apiece.
  • Quintana has back-to-back hit games.
  • Bellino stretched her hit streak to three games. In that stretch she has four hits. The junior matched a personal-best two hits.
