Softball Slips in Season Finale to WNE, 8-2

REVERE, Mass. – Suffolk softball ended its 2026 campaign with an 8-2 setback to to Western New England game two of a Conference of New England (CNE) doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Griswold Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Western New England 8

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the bases full behind walks sandwiched around a Golden Bears' error in the top of the first, Catherine Carignan sent a single up the middle that brought in two runs to give the Rams a 2-0 edge.
  • Two innings later Western New England got on the board. Outs sandwiched a Marley Rodriguez single through the left side to set up Riley Kane's one-run double to left field that trimmed the deficit to one, 2-1.
  • The Golden Bears flipped the action in their favor, 4-2, in the top of the fourth with three runs behind four hits and one Suffolk fielding mishap.
  • WNE lengthened its lead in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs to pad the distance to 6-2.
  • After the Rams went down in order in the home half of the sixth, the Golden Bears tacked on two more runs in the seventh, which put the blue-and-gold in an 8-2 hole.
  • Caringnan showed life for Suffolk as she rocked a one-out double to the right center fence in what could be her last collegiate at bat. The senior was stranded as the next two Rams flew out.
