Suffolk Win Final Game Before Winter Break 70-63 over Curry College

Boston, MA -- The Suffolk University Women’s Basketball team (5-2) held off a second half rally by Curry College (1-5) to earn a 70-63 win Thursday night at Suffolk’s Regan Gymnasium in Boston.

Suffolk freshman Meghan Black (Roslindale, MA) had a game-high 17 points and ten rebounds off the bench on 5-6 shooting from the field and 7-10 shooting from the free throw line. Senior Kerry Bowman finished her night with 14 points and four rebounds. Freshman Julianne Conrad added ten points and five rebounds.

Danyel Cousins led Curry with 13 points. Sarah Walker scored 12 points and picked up six assists. Christina Sancinito netted ten points for the Colonels.

The Rams finished the first half strong as they took a commanding 35-25 lead into the locker room. Suffolk continued its stellar play in the early stages of the second half making it a 39-27 with 18:33 left, but a 15-2 run from Curry in just under six minutes gave the Colonels a surprising 42-41 advantage.

Kim Reske’s only three points of the game gave Curry a 50-46 lead as the two teams approached the midway point of the half, but Black sparked a key 10-1 run with five points to give her Rams a 56-51 lead with 7:21 remaining.

Curry continued to fight back as a free throw from Walker put the Colonels within three points at 63-60 with 2:33 left in the game, Black and Bowman combined for seven made free throws in the closing seconds to ice the victory.

The Rams defense held yet another opponent under 40% from the field as Curry shot just 32.3% for the game. The Rams forced 31 turnovers and had 22 steals.

Suffolk will head to Santa Barbara, California for the West Coast Classes over the break as they take on regional opponents Eastern Connecticut State (12/29) and Worcester State College (12/30).
