The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team (5-5, 1-0 GNAC) opened their 2010-11 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season schedule with a 93-46 victory over the Pine Manor College Gators (3-9, 0-2 GNAC) on Tuesday evening.
The Rams had 13 players connect on at least one field goal in the game as freshman Jessica Bard (Harleysville, Penn.) led all scorers with 15 points, along with four rebounds. Sophomore Dominique Demar (Colcester, Conn.) and junior Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H) each had 12 points, while junior Andorra Salaices (Franklin, Mass.) had 10 points for the Rams. Garon and Salaices were each a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc as Suffolk shot 49 percent as a team from the field in the contest. The Rams defense was also able to force 31 turnovers on the Gators which resulted in 30 points. Sophomore Catherine Carey (Reading, Mass.) had eight points in her first game of the season, while sophomore Elizabeth Roemmele (Trumbull, Conn.) added four points in her first actions this season.
Senior Enjolee Phillips (Hartford, Conn.) led the Gators with 11 points, while junior Yafia Dowridge (White Plains, N.Y.) scored 10 points for the visitors.
The Gators will be back in action on Saturday as they take on Johnson & Wales University at 1:00pm. Suffolk will host the Monks of St. Joseph's College (Me.) on Thursday evening in GNAC action at the Regan Gymnasium at 7:00pm.
