Women's Basketball Top Simmons, 67-52

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team (8-6, 4-1 GNAC) won their fourth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup in five tries topping the Simmons College Sharks (7-9, 2-3 GNAC) by a 67-52 score on Thursday evening at the Regan Gymnasium.

Sophomore Dominique Demar (Colchester, Conn.) led the Rams with 11 points and six rebounds off the bench as the Rams pick up their eighth win of the season. Freshman Andrea Suffredini (Milford, Mass.) collected 10 points for the Rams, while junior Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) had a near double-double scoring nine points while collecting a team-high 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) led all scorers with 14 points for the Sharks, while junior Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, N.H.) had 10 points as she was 3-for-6 from three-point land. Simmons shot only 26.3 percent as a team from the field in the contest.

Suffolk managed to break the game open midway through the second half putting together a 17-3 run to spread their lead to 21 as Demar connected on a hook shot. The sophomore forward scored all 11 of her points in the second half as the Rams dominated the paint outscoring the Sharks 24-8 down low.

Sophomore Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) had eight points for the Rams, along with a team-high five assists, while sophomore Lindsey Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) and freshman Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) scored nine points each for Suffolk.

Suffolk held a slight edge of Simmons in rebounds, 41-39.

Simmons will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to St. Joseph's College of Maine for a GNAC matchup beginning at 1:00pm. Suffolk will be back on the court on Tuesday evening as they host the Framingham State University Rams in non-conference action at the Regan Gymnasium beginning at 7:00pm.
