Women's Basketball Selected to ECAC Tournament

The Suffolk University Women’s Basketball team earned selection into the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division-III New England Tournament. The fifth-seeded Rams will open up the eight-team single elimination tournament field on Wednesday, March 2nd as they take on the fourth-seeded Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers.

The Rams head into the tournament with an 18-10 overall record. Suffolk finished second in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings. Suffolk was downed by Emmanuel College, 83-67 this past Saturday in the GNAC Tournament finals.

WPI also finished second in their league’s standings posting a 14-4 record in the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The Engineers were downed by Smith College, 57-50 this past Saturday in their conference semifinals matchup. WPI will enter Wednesday night’s game with an 18-7 overall mark on the year.

Suffolk will be making their fifth consecutive appearance in the New England Tournament, while WPI will be making their third.

The University of New England will be the top seed in this year’s bracket and will open up against Smith College. The University of Southern Maine will be the second seed as they will face Regis College, and Endicott College will be the third seed as they battle sixth-seed Mass. College of Liberal Arts.
