BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball took care of Curry, 58-46, in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday afternoon at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 58 | Curry 46
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-1, 2-0 CNE) | Curry (1-7, 0-3 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a back-and-forth first frame that featured five tied scores and one lead exchange, Suffolk grabbed a 15-14 edge at the end of the first 10 minutes. Allison Bono was instrumental to the Rams' offensive output in the first quarter as the junior converted all four of her field goals to be responsible for eight points.
- The blue-and-gold commanded the opening two minutes of the second stanza as it poured in nine unanswered to build a double-digit, 24-14, distance with 8:10 on the clock before halftime.
- Lauren Morse knocked down a long ball from NBA range to ignite eight unanswered Colonels points that trimmed the gap to two, 24-22, at the midway point of the second quarter.
- Delaney More's old-school 3-point play ended the Rams' four-minute scoring draught. That play helped the host end the half on a 9-2 stretch to send Suffolk into the locker room up 33-24.
- Momentum remained in the Rams' favor out of the break as they compiled a 9-3 rally in the first 3:x of the third to lengthen their lead to 15, 42-27. Olivia Verdile was a critical component in that run as the junior poured in back-to-back buckets, one behind-the-arc and one inside the paint.
- Despite the Colonels best efforts, Suffolk managed to hold onto the double digit margin and keep the 15-point advantage with 30 minutes in the books, 50-35.
- Bono, Mia Corazzini and Jordan Moreau supplied two points apiece in the opening few minutes of the fourth to stretch the margin to 21, 56-35, with 6:44 remaining in regulation.
- Play evened out the rest of the way, but thanks to its hefty cushion, Suffolk walked away with the 58-46 victory.
