Women’s Golf Looks to Repeat as NWGC Champs this Weekend

BOSTON – Suffolk women's golf looks to repeat as Northeast Women's Golf Conference Champions this weekend when it heads to Wintonbury Hills Country Club in Bloomfield, Connecticut.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's golf captured third at the Cortland Martin/Wallace Invitational over the weekend at the Cortland Country Club.

THE COURSE
Wintonbury Hills Golf Course is a 6,711-yard, par-70 layout with a combination of open links-style and traditional three-lined holes to provide golfers a challenging round of golf.  

ABOUT THE NWGC
A new independent NCAA Division III women's golf conference was formed in 2019; the Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) was approved by the NCAA Membership Committee. Suffolk is one of 14 members of the league along with SUNY Canton, SUNY Cortland, SUNY Cobleskill, Geneseo, Husson, Keene State, Keuka, Manhattanville, Mount Saint Mary, Nazareth, St. John Fisher, Utica and Westfield State. 

NWGC CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

  • The NWGC Championship is in its fourth year.  
  • Suffolk was the inaugural champion in 2019 when the Rams topped the seven-team field at the Tekoa Country Club in Westfield, Massachusetts. In 2019 the championship was one day. 
  • In 2020, the NWGC Championship went to a two-day event at the Colonie Country Club in Voorheesville, New York. The Rams finished third in the eight-team field in 2020 with a team score of 771. 
  • The league tournament returned to a one-day outing in 2021 at the Colonie Country Club in Voorheesville, New York. Suffolk secured second place in the six-team field with a team care of 381.
  • In 2022, Suffolk turned in a runner-up finish at the Edison Club. The Rams carded a 751 over the 36-hole, two-day tournament.
  • A year ago, the blue-and-gold captured third in the eight-team field with a two-day score of 718.
