BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk women's golf's sophomore Krisna Mahendran made history Monday afternoon as she was tabbed the inaugural Conference of New England (CNE) Women's Golfer of the Week following her performance at the season-opening Hartford Hawks Women's Invitational, the league office announced Monday.
The Katy, Texas native shot an 81 (+11) at the Keney Park Golf Course good for a share of fourth in the field of 38 to anchor the Rams to a second-place team finish in the field of eight. She was not only the best Suffolk student-athlete at the event but turned in the best showing by a NCAA Division III athlete in a field that fellow CNE members Hartford, Nichols and Gordon. The blue-and-gold's squad performance, meanwhile, was also the best among its DIII counterparts.
She is the first student-athlete to capture CNE Golfer of the Week status as it is the first year the league sponsored the sport. The weekly recognition is a first for Suffolk since Brooke Bugajewski secured the last Northeast Women's Golf Conference (NWGC) Golfer of the Week of the 2042-25 season, April 12, 2025. The award marks the fifth weekly distinction on Mahendran's trophy shelf, first since she was named NWGC Player of the Week Oct. 15, 2024.
Mahendran and Suffolk return to action this Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Westfield State Invite at the Tekoa Country Club in Westfield, Massachusetts.
