BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk women's golfers Krisna Mahendran and Lauren Phelan continue to earn recognition from the Conference of New England (CNE), as Mahendran was named CNE Golfer of the Week for the third time this season and Phelan collected her second straight CNE Rookie of the Week honor for their efforts at the Polar Bear Shootout, the league office announed Monday afternoon.
Mahendran has now received the award in three of the conference's first five weeks and returns to the honor roll after last being recognized on Sept. 15. Phelan's back-to-back selections highlight the Rams' consistent campaign, as Suffolk has picked up at least one weekly conference award every week this fall. Suffolk is the first-ever program to sweep the CNE weekly awards. The blue-and-gold saw both conference awards in a weekly award haul belong to a Ram for the first time since Oct. 10, 2023 when Ellie Yarbrough and Brooke Bugajewski garnered Northeast Women's Golfer (NWGC) and Rookie of the Week,r respectively.
At the Polar Bear Shootout at the Brunswick Golf Club this weekend, Mahendran led the Rams with a two-day total of 165 (82–83), finishing just one stroke shy of the program's 36-hole record at the course. Phelan followed with a 184 (93–91) as Suffolk improved by 10 strokes on the second day to close 12th in the 14-team field.
With Mahendran and Phelan leading the charge, head coach Jay Parker's squad now shifts its focus to the inaugural Conference of New England Championship, which will take place Oct. 11–12 at Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, Conn.
