Women’s Hockey Blanks New England College, 3-0

BOSTON – Three different Rams scored and standup netminding from Kristen Caporusso led Suffolk women's hockey to a 3-0 victory over New England College Saturday afternoon at Lee Clemente Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk got on the board toward the tail end of the first period. On the power play, Tess Adams took a shot from the left circle, Cianna Weir turned aside the senior's attempt, but Sierra Donahue was there to pick up the pieces. The rookie put the puck away with 28 seconds left in the opening period to send Suffolk into the first intermission up 1-0.  

Following a scoreless second, the Rams doubled their advantage in the early moments of the third. Shana Cote got Weir sliding one way, before Adams scored in the opposite direction to stretch Suffolk's cushion to 2-0 3:20 into third period action. 

NEC pulled Weir in the hopes of getting something going late. Instead, Jesse Kennedy forced a turnover in the defensive zone and dumped it for a change. Haley Poloskey out raced the Pilgrims defender and scored on the empty net at the 18:24 minute mark for the final 3-0 margin. 

NETMINDER NOTES

• Caporusso earned her sixth shutout of the season with a 14-save effort.
• Weir finished the outing with 54 stops to her credit. 

STATISTICALL SPEAKING

• Adams and Cote each had two-point performances. The former had one goal and one assist, while the latter handed out a pair of helpers.
• Donahue and Poloskey each produced one goal for the blue-and-gold's offense.
• Madison Duff and Kennedy each set-up one score.
• Suffolk commanded the shots, 57-54.
• The Rams took care of business in the face-off dot as well, 37-63.
• Suffolk went 1-for-6 on its man-up chances and successfully killed its one penalty. 

NOTEWORTHY

• Suffolk and NEC met for the first time.
• The Rams moved to 1-0-0 versus the Pilgrims.
• Suffolk ran its win streak to four, the most wins in a row in program history.
• Suffolk shutout its sixth opponent of the season, all of which belong to Caporusso's credit. 
• Donahue recorded her first collegiate goal.
• Adams extended her point streak to seven. Over that stretch she has registered nine points off six goals and three assists.
• Poloskey pushed her point streak to four straight. Over the stretch she has notched six points on five goals and one assist.
• Cote has recorded at least one point in the last four games. In those contests, she has tallied eight points, all of helpers.
• Kennedy has handed out one assist in the last three outings.
