BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk women's ice hockey's Katelyn Michals was tabbed Conference of New England (CNE) Goaltender of the Week after back stopping the blue-and-gold to a 2-0-0 league week, the conference office announced Monday.
Michals compiled a 1.70 goal-against average and 94.3 save percentage in a pair of 4-3 CNE victories over Nichols. In the two-game, home-and-home series, the junior netminder turned aside 99 to hit the coveted 1,000-save mark in her collegiate career, split between Assumption (44 saves) and Suffolk (956).
In Eastie on Friday, the blue-and-gold goaltender had a career-high 53 saves, and a day later she recorded 46 stops in Harrisville, Rhode Island.
Michals' first weekly distinction is a first for Suffolk this season and first since Bella Schmidt took home CNE Player of the Week Jan. 27, 2025. She is the first Rams' goalie to be named the conference's best goaltender in a seven-day span since Lily O'Neil earned the honor Feb. 5, 2024.
Suffolk is back in action at the tail end of the week with a home-and-home series against Western New England, who is receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com poll. The Rams travel to Springfield, Massachusetts Thursday, Nov. 20 at 3:00 p.m., before hosting the Golden Bears Saturday, Nov. 22 at 4:50 p.m.
