Women’s Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Husson, 9-7

BOSTON – Suffolk women's lacrosse opened its second ever campaign with a 9-7 setback to Husson Sunday afternoon at Sweeney Field. 

First-year Carley Ehwa registered a hat trick to pace the Rams in her collegiate debut.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first quarter went back and forth with three lead changes and two ties. Zoe Peckham opened the scoring for Suffolk with a man-up goal at 13:01 to make it 1-0. Husson responded with back-to-back goals over a 6:14 stretch to pull ahead, 2-1. The Rams closed the quarter strong as Lauren Woods found the back of the net with 3:19 remaining, and Ehwa buried her first collegiate goal as time expired to give Suffolk a 3-2 lead after one.
  • Julia Dickinson pushed the advantage to 4-2 early in the second, finishing a feed from Jessie Le.Husson tightened up defensively for the rest of the half and capitalized twice on the man-up, evening the score at 4-4 heading into the break.
  • Husson opened the second half with a goal and threatened to add another before Ehwa shifted the momentum as she went coast-to-coast while Suffolk was a player down, finishing her second of the game to even the score at 5-5. The teams traded goals the rest of the quarter, and Ehwa completed her hat trick with a close-range finish to keep the Rams level at 6-6 heading into the final frame.
  • After the Eagles struck early in the final stanza, Bridget O'Leary answered with an unassisted goal at the 13:17 mark to tie the game at 7-7. Husson then netted the final two goals of the contest to secure a 9-7 decision.

  • Charlotte Guziejka recorded six saves and secured a team best five ground balls.
  • Finley Pomerleau stopped five shots in net for the Eagles.
