Somerville, Mass. – The Suffolk University Women's Soccer team (4-2-1, 3-2 GNAC) had their three-game winning streak snapped by the St. Joseph College Blue Jays (7-1, 3-1 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon by a 3-1 score.
The Blue Jays defense stymied the Rams offense, who scored 17 goals in the past three games for the win in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Junior Stacey Rutledge (Meriden, Conn.) had a hand in all three goals for the Blue Jays scoring the game-winner with a header off a corner kick in the game's 51st minute. Rutledge also had two assists on the day for the Blue Jays who move to 3-1 in conference play.
St. Joseph got on the board scoring in the game's 27th minute when freshman Patricia Nolan (Portland, Conn.) snuck by two Rams defenders for the game's first strike. Rutledge's goal would put the Blue Jay up 2-0 six minutes in the second half.
Suffolk would answer as freshman Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored her team leading 10th goal of the season at the 58-minute mark of the contest. Miranda took a pass from junior Leslie Hayden (Ross, Calif.) and had her shot deflect off a Blue Jays defender for the tally.
Senior Eva Peart (Bloomfield, Conn.) would give the Blue Jays some insurance ten minutes later as Rutledge led her with a pass for a breakaway and give the Blue Jays the 3-1 edge.
Both teams will be back in GNAC action on Tuesday. The Blue Jays will host Albertus Magnus College at 4:00pm, while the Rams travel to Rivier College at 5:30pm.
