Two-time defending GNAC Rookie of the Week Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) and freshman Gabrielle Balestrier (Mohnton, Penn.) each scored a pair of goals as the Rams topped Rivier College, 4-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday evening.
With the win the Rams now move to 5-2-1 overall on the season and pick up their fourth GNAC win of 2010.
Miranda struck twice in the first half scoring both her goals seven minutes apart to put the Rams up 2-0 going into the half. Miranda first scored at the 37th minute mark of the game and then netted her conference leading 12th goal of the year with a minute remaining in the half.
Balestrier led the way in the second half scoring three minutes after the break as she was set up by GNAC Player of the Week Leslie Hayden (Ross, Calif.). Balestrier tallied her sixth goal of the year at the 60th minute mark of the contest for a 4-0 Rams edge.
Senior Emily Joyce (Easton, Mass.) needed to make only one save in the game in goal for the Rams as Suffolk controlled much of the offensive tempo outshooting Rivier 14-8 in the contest.
Suffolk will be back in action on Saturday as they take on Mount Ida College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup beginning at 2:00pm at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.
